This semester, our team at Hill Communications had the opportunity to partner with The Annietober365 Foundation, a cancer awareness foundation founded in loving memory of Annie Eisner, who battled Leukemia and was a student at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. As fellow students of the Newhouse School, this organization and the opportunity to work with Annietober365 felt especially close to our hearts and it was truly the most unique and unforgettable honor to work with them.
Our team was led by Maddie Brachfeld who served as Account Supervisor, Eleanor Young and Kate LaFountain served as Account Associates, Emmett Reilley served as our Intern and I served as Account Executive.
Our goal was to raise awareness of the foundation, honor Annie, who was a part of the class of 2025, during her senior year and grow Annie’s Army by surpassing 4,400 bone marrow swabs. We accomplished this by successfully pitching to local Syracuse news outlets such as CNYCentral, as well as to Syracuse University student media outlets such as CitrusTV and the Daily Orange, securing media coverage on the Annietober foundation and increasing visibility and awareness of Annie's story. We planned and facilitated swab drives on campus to celebrate Annie’s birthday in October as well as drives in the local Syracuse community, to once again, spread Annie’s story and raise awareness about the foundation. We also assisted with creating strategic initiatives for the foundation by creating an application for a future fellowship program with Annietober365, created brand guidelines and wrote a press release highlighting Hill Communications’ partnership with the foundation.
Our efforts this semester taught us so much about media relations, event planning, outreach, collaboration and client relations. Additionally, we as a team became much more knowledgeable and aware of how absolutely essential these swab drives were for finding potential donors that could save a cancer patient’s life.
Looking ahead to the future, we are excited to see the launch of the brand-new fellowship program with Annietober365, as well as seeing the execution of a SPOKE Cycle for Survival event, which we started to coordinate this semester and will help continue to engage with the nearby community and support the foundation’s fundraising goals. We hope Annie’s story is kept alive and vibrant and that The Annietober365 foundation can be empowered to carry out their mission and continue to spark hope in many people’s lives.
