McCarthy Mercantile Market

Last semester, through Hill Communications, I was given the amazing opportunity to lead a team of five students including Fiona Flynn, Shayla Ismael, Megan Kane, Hannah Kim and Jack McCarty, and work with McCarthy Mercantile Market, Syracuse’s premier “indie underground shopping destination.” McCarthy Mercantile Market, located at 217 S Salina St, houses a wide variety of local artisans and independent vendors, capturing the essence of local commerce and community spirit.

From handmade goods and vintage finds, to sweet and savory cinnamon buns, McCarthy Mercantile has it all. After exploring McCarthy Mercantile Market and its offerings, my team and I set out to share the unique vendor space through promotional efforts.

This year, McCarthy Mercantile Market, paired with neighboring multi-vendor marketplace Wildflowers Armory, shared their presence on Syracuse University’s campus through an annual event: Wildflowers U. Between November 13th and 18th, Wildflowers U brings the locally handcrafted items to Syracuse University’s campus store to sell to the student population.

Students had the opportunity to shop around and explore McCarthy Mercantile Market, without the hassle of traveling downtown. The five-day duration was a success on campus, and my team is honored to have promoted the event. Through photography, creating promotional graphics and email pitch writing, we were able to spread awareness about this hidden gem of Syracuse.
