Newhouse MND

The fall semester of 2023, Hill Communications was able to continue its work with the

Newhouse Magazine, News and Digital journalism social media platforms. Newhouse MND social media are where incoming and current students along with parents, professors, and professionals can stay up to date with all things Syracuse MND. Working closely with MND Professor Jon Glass, Hill Communications is very proud of the work produced this semester.

The amazing team working with MND included Account Supervisor Megan Perry; our Account Associates Jackson Olenick and Rylee Pohancsek; our Intern Kate Cantillion; and I served as our Account Executive. One of the most exciting things the team accomplished this semester was establishing the TikTok account. This included increasing posting, generating fresh content, and boosting engagement. After conducting research early on in the semester with a Qualtrics survey, we understood that followers enjoy content that promotes MND events, clubs, and student takeovers. Working with MND students to be involved with an Instagram takeover became a great source of engagement as selected students would receive questions from other people. After each takeover was posted, someone from the Hill Communications team would compile and edit that multiple videos into one TikTok which would then be posted. It was truly amazing to see how far the TikTok account has come and track its future growth.

Working on the digital side of public relations was a true reflection of the work students can expect to see in future careers. The world of public relations has changed due to the influence of social media and working with Newhouse MND, our team was able to get a glimpse of this. One of the primary account needs was designing and creating graphics for Instagram. Our team became proficient in Canva, utilizing its features to stay within the Syracuse social media guidelines, while creating interesting graphics. We understand how this is a necessary skill in our profession and were happy to gain firsthand experience through working with this client.
